It’s always refreshing to wake up knowing you’re going into a job that you love and enjoy, but unfortunately, for most people that isn’t the case. If you dread going to your job every day, if you argue with your co-workers or if your boss is ruining your life, then chances are you are not going to be very productive during your 9-5 schedule.

Company culture can have a massive effect on morale and work ethic and can even change how people feel about their chosen career path. If you’re not happy at your job, not only will it show in your productivity but it can also hinder company growth extremely. Changes in this culture can be minor or major. They can occur when an integral part of the team leaves and is replaces or when a small part of the company policy changes.

At Idea Harvest we are trying to build a culture that is different from corporate America. We want people to be able to do what they love from wherever they hang their hat. The goal for any job should be that employees enjoy coming to work every day, and that is what we strive for. We hope that they have fun on the job while still being able to get their work done and be productive, and many factors can influence this. It helps when no one in the office is competitive, but instead, everyone is rooting for the other person’s success and a company that is aligned with your goals as well as your co-workers goals will help achieve success for everyone involved and ultimately widespread positivity around the office.

It is important when trying to create a more upbeat morale that you just listen. Listen to those around you—co-workers, consumers, advertisers, editors and news/articles written about your company. This will lend hints as to what your company culture is really like and can lead to constructive changes.

It’s that time of the year again, and if you’re like the majority of the population then you’ve been slacking off on your Christmas shopping. So what do you get your techie brother or your electronic-obsessed best friend? There are some fancy tablets out on the market right now, all pretty similar but also varying in some qualities.

The Samsung Galaxy Tablet has been the biggest competitor to the iPad thus far. The screen has a 1024x600 pixel resolution, which is a little less than the iPad (1024x768) and boasts two cameras, a rear camera with a LED flash and a front camera for video calling. What makes this tablet more unique than any other however is that, like the Galaxy III S phone on the market from Samsung, the tab can act has a Wi-Fi hotspot for up to five devices.

The iPad has all of these same features (minus the hotspot element, from what I am aware). The iPad’s cameras are both capable of still images, but the quality is quite a bit lower than the Galaxy, which takes pretty fantastic shots. It also features a popular trait, iBooks, to compete with the Kindle Fire.

The second generation of Amazon’s Kindle Fire HD line has the same pixel resolution as the Galaxy tab and enough storage for 80 applications and 6,000 books. It has a front-facing camera for making video calls and taking pictures, but not a second camera, which seems a little odd. The reviews for this tablet have been favorable and it’s a good choice for your avid reader relative.

Making sure you buy the right tablet for someone is tricky, but the case and stand you get for it should be a no-brainer. The Tablet Claw fits all of these models of tablets and is the most comfortable way to present and display your tablet. The grip ring makes it impossible for slips and drops of your precious technological cargo, and the kickstand is perfect for hands-free use. After one use the Tablet Claw will become your tablet’s best buddy.

The War on Marketing: Who is Winning Between Apple, Samsung and Microsoft?

Between Apple, Samsung and Microsoft, fans and avid tech users are pledging their loyalty. But we’re wondering, is their loyalty based simply off their proficient skills with their respective models (and unwillingness to change) or the marketing of the products they hold so dear? Let’s take a step back and examine it:

Apple:

Is the iPhone really better or is it just a bunch of hype?

Apple’s commercials never really vary. First there were the iPod advertisements. Ever-obnoxious dark silhouettes dancing to catchy tunes that would soon blow up and become wildly popular, as shown here.

Then there are the Justin Long ads. Long is portrayed as the cool, trendy Mac and the PC’s are shown as a dowdy man in a taupe suit. He has a lot of problems with his PC and we’re all supposed to point and laugh and find it hilariously entertaining.

Now they tend to lean towards the same format for most their commercials. They’ll show a hand swiping through an iPhone and clicking on apps, ask Siri to remind them to put the gazpacho on ice, have Zooey Deschanel dance around in her quirky pajamas to “Shake, Rattle & Roll,” and ultimately show off great features that most people never even learn how to do.

Apple has had the good and the bad, but they’ve never had the amazing or the horrible. They always seem to teeter on mediocrity, and why? Because they can. Their fan base is so loyal they will follow them tirelessly. You don’t have to put Martin Scorsese in an iPhone commercial; people are going to wait hours to buy it anyways.

Samsung:

Samsung, on the other hand, does not have to rely on four to five products like Apple. The company is huge and diverse—TVs, tablets, laptops, smart phones, cameras, REFRIGERATORS—so why are attacking Apple so fiercely with their marketing?

It is due largely in part to the Apple vs. Samsung court debacle back in August. A California jury awarded Apple $1 billion in damages after they found Samsung guilty of infringing on Apple mobile technology patents.

Since then Samsung has been synonymous with using marketing ploys to make fun of iPhone fanatics. Days before the iPhone 5 was released, Samsung printed a newspaper ad stating, “The Next Big Thing is Already Here.”

Along with that came a commercial showing people lined up outside what is assuredly an Apple store, camping out for the new iPhone. The fan boys were waiting hours while the Samsung followers watched by idling, swapping play lists by bumping phones or saving spots in line for their parents.

Then there were the “It doesn’t take a genius.” print ads showcasing the differences and superior qualities of the iPhone and the Samsung Galaxy. They were likely a dig at Apple’s Super Bowl commercials featuring one of their genius bar gurus guiding people through sticking situations like editing video on a plane or creating a photo album.

So far, it seems Samsung’s way of seducing iPhone fans away from the “dark side” is by blatantly making fun of them. Will insulting people make them buy the product? Steering clear of this feud and going their own direction may help a bit more. This ad was a step in the right direction, not to mention a tad scandalous and amusing.

Microsoft:

It’s no secret that Samsung and Apple have been hashing it out, but where does Microsoft stand in all this? It’s safe to say Microsoft is the red headed step-child that we are paying least attention to, but they do have a lot to offer.

They have their own surface tablet now that is generating some buzz. The detachable keyboard also serves as the cover and has many interesting features. However, the Microsoft team has chosen to focus on Wi-fi, so the tablet lacks 3G and 4G connectivity.

In the end, people are going to stick with the product they feel most related to. These phones and tablets basically do the same thing anyway, it’s all about user preference. All three companies have new products out that are out-selling and doing extremely well. In its first two months the Samsung Galaxy S III hit sales in the 10 million mark making it the leader in the android market, and Apple sold 5 million iPhone 5’s in it’s first weekend alone. Meanwhile, Microsoft is just doing alright, but that is expected with all the publicity and excitement surrounding the Samsung vs. Apple war. Every product has its glitches and each one offers at least one thing that the other brand can’t. Apple users and Samsung loyalists are very rarely swayed to the opposing side, so why bother trying? Companies should start concentrating on rebranding themselves rather than trying to keep up with the Joneses.

Engadget - Site review by Idea Harvest (Creators of the Tablet Claw)

Engadget is a constant buzzing hive of activity and is without question one of the heartbeats to the technology online-body. We love Engadget for one reason; you simply cannot get bored with it due to the sheer volume of engaging content! Ranging from a perpetual news feed that bleeds videos, articles, photo’s & opinions to a treasure trove of information stored in their podcasts, there is literally something here for everyone.

They have a graet ‘HUB’ section devoted to a plethora of products such as: Apple, Samsung, CTIA, Blackberry - which covers everything from products to current and ongoing events.

There is a fantastic Gallery which showcases professional snaps of all of the new gadgets on the block - which is great for visual people like myself (I never read the captions, a picture paints a thousand words!)

I love the video section of this site. Personally, I always learn more from watching a video rather than reading something. Their video site has some great content ranging from demonstrations of the latest iMac, Samsung galaxy tablet and Apple iPads/iPhones, to great keynote speeches from corporate giants such as Microsoft CEO Steve Balmer. A great place to spend a couple of minutes per day!

The podcast section is full to the brim with endless Engadget podcasts. This is a MUST for anyone interested in all things technology related. Why not pop onto the podcast section while on the train to work in the morning?

We love their Review board the most though - it is a review focal point for all of the newest gadgets on the market from phones, to headphones to MP3 Players to laptops. You want to buy a gadget?… Theres a good chance there is a thorough review in here to tip you one way or the other so be sure to check it out!

You can also buy Engadget merchandise which, unlike a number of self promotional site merchandises, are actually very cool & quite trendy. Ranging from T-Shirts to posters to downloads, there is a great selection on show here and products/services of rare great quality.

All in all Engadget is one of our favourite online tech-communities. It provides an answer to almost all tech related questions if it doesnt, hey, just drop them a line and they’ll tell you! We feel its up there leading the way with providing valuable technology information, news and content in a fun and engaging way! We love Engadget here at Tablet Claw!

Prezi is the latest and greatest in interactive presentations. It brings your demonstration to life in a way that Powerpoint simply cannot. If you haven’t had the chance to check it out, I would highly recommend you discover all it has to offer; right now!

Not only is it very easy to use but, there is an inbuilt ‘Tips’ activation that pops up as you use the software, suggesting how to improve the look, feel & interactivity of your presentation! Its easy to get started, you can choose from one of their themes or create one of your own - my personal choice; its always good to make your presentation/pitch stand out, remember you could be 1 in 4 pitches seen in any given day by your target customer so be smart and use the creativity on offer here to your full advantage.

My favorite feature is the ability to zoom in or out as much as you want making it easy to hide words. Imagine demonstrating your product/service visually via your presentation and then all of a sudden ZOOMING OUT to reveal your shockingly low price!? - A beautiful and innovative little impact feature indeed. This program is ideal for any sales professional looking to make a difference in order to close the deal!

Be mindful of spelling however because there is no spell checker. Attention to detail is primal when in a sales pitch and the slightest error, even a misspelling can plant a seed of doubt in your target client’s faith in how much you really want their business.

Other than that my only small frustration was the inability to edit your project on the iPad. The App is ideal for presenting once finished or if you just need to move an object or edit typing but you cannot create a whole presentation from within it.

Overall Prezi is changing the way people present for the better! The interactions are much more fun to watch than traditional presentation programs (up there with Keynote) and truly help to keep your audience captivated during your production. The combination of Tablet Claw and the Prezi iPad app will arm anyone well enough to ‘Present Fearlessly!’

Apple's 'KEYNOTE' - What do we think?

Keynote is a neatly designed & smart alternative to Microsoft power-point.

I was not aware until recently that Keynote was specifically designed for Steve Jobs himself. As one of the most engaging corporate presenters of our time, this doesn’t surprise me in the slightest.

The most striking thing about Keynote is, forgive the pun, its presentation. It looks and feels beautiful both to use and to watch.

Just tap the “+” sign in the upper right hand corner and select ‘Create Presentation’. Several templates for your presentation will be presented to you. The user options for Keynote are very straight forward:

· Format brush: This allows you to change typography/text

· Insert button: Tap to add content to your slides. You can input many images from your photo album, tables, charts and several shapes from the software itself.

· Tools: This menu allows you to add different transitions to your presentation and add presenter notes – which is a nice touch.

· Play button: This plays your presentations! Just pinch the screen to go back to editing mode – nice.

· Formatting & Editing is very easy.

· The 3D graphs & charts make the look, feel & delivery of your presentations more professional.

Keynote on iPad is so easy to use & engaging that you may you may never go back to power-point on a laptop or desktop.

As avid lovers of all things innovative, we at Tablet Claw (Idea Harvest LLC) have reviewed some of the best sources for technology news, information sharing & valuable content on the web.

Today we start with Slashdot.org. Slashdot.org is an easily navigated haven of information waiting to be tapped for those as hungry as we are to know whats going on in the technology & business world. Slashdot both allows both readers of the site & veritable technology experts share a range of articles that covers a spectrum of technology focused verticals.

Slashdot is ‘powered by your submissions’ - which means its a good place to start if you’re looking for an answer to a technology orientated question.

On the right hand side Slashdot boasts a range of headings: An extremely interactive ‘Ask Slashdot’ section where you can post a question and your submission is then shared in the ‘Ask Slashdot’ forum, allowing for elaboration on your requested answer from other savee users/expert users alike, via a comment system.

There is a ‘Book reviews’ section where avid readers can post their reviews on technology related books but also post articles that share information contained within specific books - quite useful.

It offers a massive range of user submitted material in the form of the following headings, so bare these in mind if you’re looking for specific information in these areas: Cloud, Hardware, Linux, management, mobile, science, security & storage. Within each topic, there is a litany of submitted articles pertinent to that topic. There is a good keyword-strong search bar on the site so you dont necessarily have to sift through the thousands of articles in any given section to find something related to your interest.

You can also register with Slashdot, this is how you become an active poster online and allows you to share your own articles / book reviews / tips etc. Note though that you dont have to join Slashdot to be able to post. However doing so allows you to manage the content that shows up in your Slashdot login home. Nice. There is an awesome event library page which has a list of current, online webinars, online demos & general trade events that are going on.

I have 2 favourite parts of Slashdot. While all of the content in here is highly useful, its very text heavy. Fear not, Slashdot stories can be listened to via an RSS feed, very nice touch. Also there is great ‘Slashdot TV’ station where there are a good range of interesting and fun videos to choose from!

All in all Slashdot is a massive resource of information which is a buzzing community of value sharing. We highly recommend Slashdot.org here at Tablet Claw! (Idea Harvest LLC)
